Pre-hospital triage of patients with suspected large vessel occlusion (LVO) is the first step in implementing rapid and direct transfer protocols to comprehensive stroke centers, where patients can receive endovascular therapy.
Several international recommendations have been published regarding triage and transfer algorithms for patients with suspected LVO, including:
- European Recommendations (Int J Stroke 2016)
- Systematic Review for the 2018 Guideliness for Early Managment of patients with acute ischemic stroke
- American Heart Association / American Stroke Association – Severity-based Stroke Triage Algorithm
- EMS Best Practices
- Swiss guidelines for the prehospital phase in suspected acute stroke
