The RACE scale was implemented in September 2014 in the Stroke Code protocol in Catalonia after an online trainning program for EMS technicians, phisicans and nurses.

Since then, the RACE scale has been evaluated progressively in a higher number of patients, achieving at present 90% of the patients with activation of the Stroke Code by EMS. The RACE score is given to the receptor stroke center, offering an important information about the stroke severity.

Half of the patients scored a RACE scale ≥5, harboring a large vessel occlusion.
